Activity Two
Apple patented orientation heuristics (landscape to portrait) some time ago. Basically Apple is claiming that the software detects where the thumbs of the user is holding the devise and therefore rotates to accommodate this. The diagram below is part of the patent application.
I guess usability testing was extensive to figure out that users hold the devise in this manner before swinging to landscape (Figure 5A to Figure 5B). I’ll test it out on my kids iPod later…
